Instructional Activity
1 Freewrite for 5 minutes. Date entry in book & count words.
2 Started "Applied Grammar." Set aside 20 blank sheets of Compo (get sticky notes from Bowen for start/end of section) for this work.
3 For the applied grammar work, our goals will be to a) write perfect sentences (no errors) and reinforce the rules that will help us to do that in the future.
4 On the first page of your AG section, write a corrected version of the sentence below. (Do not copy incorrect version--word order and word choice may need to be fixed first.)
5 Copy rules (below) underneath your corrected sentence. (Adapt examples to ones that make sense to you.)
6 Write a new sentence of your own (relevant to your life) that uses all of today's rules.
Notes:
FIX this sentence:
the president of the united states together with the leaders of several central american countries have agreed to new meetings on agricultural practices
COPY these rules, substituting content relevant to you
1. ALL nations/nationalities = capitalized
France, French; Sudan, Sudanese
2. Apostrophe (') in possession goes AFTER the owner
Elaine's car (who owns the car? Elaine)
My parents' anniversary (who owns the anniversary? both parents
3. mom/dad = my, our, his, the
Mom/Dad = replaces proper noun
My mom is young; she and Dad married at 18.
WRITE a new sentence that applies all three rules correctly!
