Assignment overview here.

Complete research "recipe" is in your handout; you may view the PDF here.

Research Step 1: Topic and Sources

1. Open assignment here. Save to your folder as TopicSource_YOURNAME_.

Working off campus? Click here or see handout in packet.
Assignment templates available on Google Docs: click here.

2. Search Global Issues here:

GIC

3. Search Ebsco Host here:

Ebsco

4. Don't Google yet.

Google

5. When you have finished the Topic Source assignment, save, print, and turn in to MsB. If you have time remaining, you may get your eCards set up and begin taking notes.

Research Step 2: Start eCards

1. Open assignment here. Save to your folder as RPeCards_YOURNAME_. You may also copy into your Google Drive from this folder.

TIPS: How to make MLA bibliography in Global Issues and Ebsco (EASIER than EasyBib!).

2. Continue to use Global Issues and Ebsco Host for your first 5 eCards (no Google yet).

3. Your final paper should have the following sections, so this is the information you are looking for. Use these outline headings in your "subtopic" column.

     I. Background
          A. Country Background
          B. Problem Background

     II. Problem
          A. Effects
          B. Causes

     III. Solutions
          A. Alternatives
          B. Pros / Cons

     IV. Recommendation
          A. Best approach
          B. Why it is best

Research Step 3: Country Background Paragraph

1. Open assignment here. Save to your folder as RPCountryBackground_YOURNAME_.doc.

Good sources for country background:
Global Issues: "Overview" and "Reference," usually at top of page after searching for country.
Ebsco: Uncheck all except "Country Reports" in "Include when searching" box.

The Country Background paragraph must include evidence*, but for this exercise does not need to be a full CEAL paragraph.
*facts from at least two sources required -- use three sources for more credit

Helpful tips here.

Research Step 4: 15 eCards (correction: due 12/15/15)

1. When you have at least 15 eCards completed, call over MsB to check them on your screen.

For full credit, be sure you have followed the instructions embedded in the eCards template and summarized here.

Once your 15 eCards are approved, you may use any good sources (web, print, other), but be paying attention to HOW great or terrible each source is. Don't use information from bad sources, but DO save the URL in your eCards, because we will be comparing the best/worst of our sources in the "Great and Terrible Source Hunt."

Research Exercise: Great and Terrible Source Hunt

1. Open assignment here. Save to your folder as RPSourceEval2015_YOURNAME_.doc.

Research Step 5: Thesis/Outline

For your convenience, we are COMBINING these checkpoints!

1. Open complete typing template here. Save to your folder as RPFinalPaper_YOURNAME_.doc.

IF YOU HAPPEN TO TAKE MORE eCARDS...be certain to include them in your eCards AND Bibliography!

Research Step 6: Finish eCards

A minimum of 25 eCards are required for this project. Count the number of facts you have for EACH subtopic; if you lack evidence in a key area, conduct further research.

Be sure you have covered the basics as well as the details of your problem and solution.

Depending on subject and length of cards, up to 50 eCards may be needed to answer the research question.

Research Step 7: Write Bibliography and Title Page

1. Open assignment saved previously.

2. Complete the title page, leaving a blank line for word count.

3. Complete works cited (bibliography). This is an alphabetized list of every source from which you have used evidence (direct quote or paraphrase). If you have been careful to enter your sources in MLA format in eCards, the source column serves as a "rough draft" of your works cited. MsB will demonstrate a simple and safe method for converting that rough draft into a final bibliography.

Research Step 8: Write Body with in-text citations

1. Open assignment saved above.

2. Use "accordion paper" format.

3. Follow protocols for precise citation of facts and quotations borrowed from sources. Helpful tips here.

How to get the grade you want: view requirements here.

Research Step 9: Write Introduction and Conclusion with in-text citations

Research Step 10: Submit final paper
